Sam Hume

After switching from surf life saving to triathlon, Sam Hume finished 12th overall and first in his age group in his debut ironman at Port Macquarie 2006. With steady improvement over the next three years, he was the second Australian across the line at the ironman world championships at Kona 2008 in 27th place overall. In a big day out on the lava fields, Sam ran himself into the 2nd amateur position with a sub 3-hour marathon to finish in 8h57m.

Living in bayside Melbourne, Sam has a busy day job as a specialist physician in infectious diseases, and contributes a monthly article for Australia's most popular triathlon publication Triathlon and Multi
Sport Magazine. His 2009 objectives include learning the nuances of fatherhood and completing some unfinished business in Kona.
